Origin of the dish: USA
I discovered this dish through my friend Nicole when I was living in Dublin.
She is from Winsconsin in USA and for Thanksgiving she uses to prepare this super tasty dish with brie and pecans which are a typical staple for this celebration.
Brie is one of my favorite cheeses and this is one of the most impressive and easy appetisers.
It looks elegant and, well, the combination with gooey brie, caramelized onions, sweet maple syrup and cruncy pecans is incredible. Try this recipe and see: it is an absolute crowd-pleaser!
Ingredients for 4 people
1 (8 oz / 220 gr) round brie cheese
1 white/yellow onion, thinly sliced
4 tablespoons brown sugar
4 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1/2 cup chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F / 175 degrees C
Place brie on a small baking dish. Bake 15 - 20 minutes until softened. Switch off the oven and let it cool. .
While the brie cools, heat a knob of butter and the onion in a saucepan. Stir for 5 minutes and then add brown sugar and maple syrup over and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Continue to cook for 15 minutes and sprinkle some salt over the onions. If needed, add a little water to the pan, this will keep the onions from drying out as they cook. Stir in pecans until coated with mixture.
Spoon over the brie and serve immediately with sliced bread.
This is my selections of American songs which I appreciate the most. For this recipe, I added few musicians from Winsconsin like Violent Femmes, Garbage and Atmosphere.
I couldn't miss to add "Party in the USA" of Myley Cyrus: my guilty pleasure in this playlist. It brings me back to great memories! So, let's the party started and enjoy the Baked Brie with friends!
